Self Assessment

I have been learning Japanese on and off continually for a while now. Nothing totally surprised me about performance descriptors they are what I expected them to be. I think all my Japanese performance levels are somewhere in the novice category. I personally think that I am best at reading in Japanese compared to my speaking and writing. I can recognize characters a lot quicker when reading compared to trying to remember them for writing. I also have spent a lot more time reading, I try to read basic manga and spend time on Japanese apps and games. I don't get much exposure to much Japanese speaking which also explains why I am lower at that level.

I plan to focus some on listening and a lot on speaking to sharpen those skills. I think I can do decent at listening and picking out things but when speaking I tend to forget a lot of stuff. When speaking I lose grammar and things end up wrong, so I need to spend time trying to remember them better so even in situations like in public I can trust myself to remember everything I have learned.

When writing I need to fix my handwriting and just like speaking work on remembering grammar so things will make sense on paper. Overall, I think one of the biggest issues I need to work on is vocabulary because there are not many things I can say or talk about. I think what would help with vocabulary would be spending more time with kanji especially when reading manga I use a lot of furigana. It's just mostly unfortunate how much kanji there is, it's crazy how much there are to remember. It will mostly just take practice and time. Which is very doable with the course I am taking right now.
